Under the holy peaks of the Trikuta Hills lies the Jammu University- an outpost of culture and spirituality. The university traces its origins back to 1969, when The Jammu and Kashmir University was bifurcated into what we know today as the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir.

This university is the place where students come with new hopes to begin a fresh chapter in their lives, one loaded with responsibility, knowledge, maturity and friendship.

The educational options provided here include: undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. They are also proud to offer honorary degrees to persons of exceptional caliber.

We ensure you that the students of the Jammu University have high values to believe in and good causes to stand for. The university has a wide range of departments, covering multiple interest areas of study. The university’s educational offer includes as many as 11 faculties.

A Brief Exposure of the Faculties:

The Faculty of Life Sciences and The Faculty of Sciences focus on finding the pragmatism and the sense of the world surrounding us.

The Faculty of Life Sciences runs the School of Biotechnology, the Department of Botany (including the Department of Environmental Science) and the Department of Zoology.

The Faculty of Sciences includes the Department of Chemistry, Department of Geology, Department of Geography, Department of Home Science and the Department of Physics and Electronics (including the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS).

The Faculty of Medicine completes this nice picture and comes with increased respect for the human body.

Students enrich their fresh judgment with the help of the Faculty of Mathematical Science, running the departments of: Mathematics, Statistics and Computer, Science & IT.

The Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Business Studies are two other Faculties the Jammu University is very proud of.

The Faculty of Law includes the Department of Law and The Law School, but if you want to go deep into the human’s conscience and behavior here is your chance to do it, with the Faculty of Social Science, including plenty of departments: Economics, History, Political Science, Library and Information Science, Psychology, Strategic and Regional Studies, Sociology and Life Long Learning.

We also have a good option for those who believe that art is the essence of the human soul. The Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and The Faculty of Arts/Oriental Languages, with its departments: Buddhist Studies, Dogri, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Urdu bring human interactions to another level.

The Jammu University – History and Cultural Tradition

Jammu University logoThe Jammu University was founded in 1969, when the Act of the State Legislature separated the former Jammu and Kashmir University into two universities: Jammu and Kashmir.

The University is located in the city of Jammu, which is 600 km away from the capital New Delhi. The city sheltering the University Of Jammu is also known as the “City Of Temples”, since there are many astonishing historical temples and shrines with shimmering domes of antique mosques to be found in the area, spreading a feeling of calmness, peace and love.

Currently, the university is located on the banks of the Tawi River, a holy treasure of India.

The Jammu University fits perfectly into this sacral, picturesque décor, showing a simple settled architectural style, whose minimal notes are perfectly rounded by the green landscape; The University Fountain Plaza is one of the main attractions in this cozy environment created by the University of Jammu. Students here are always at their ease and they do not feel any stress or pressure, because the surroundings are really tranquil and beautiful.
